World Lion Day

❖  'World Lion Day' is organized every year on 10 August to raise awareness about the conservation of lions globally.
❖  The initiative to conserve lions started in the year 2013 and the first 'World Lion Day' was also organized in the same year.
❖  In the last 100 years, the population of lions has been recorded to decline by 80%.
❖  The main goal of organizing this day is to raise awareness to preserve lions in their natural habitat. It also works on measures related to the protection of the lion community.
❖  Its scientific name is Panthera leo. The lion is divided into two subspecies: the African lion and the Asiatic lion (Panthera leo persica).
