❖ An estimated 354 million people worldwide are infected with hepatitis B or C, and for most of them, testing and treatment are inaccessible.
❖ A WHO study found that an estimated 4.5 million premature deaths could be prevented in low- and middle-income countries by 2030 through vaccination, diagnostic tests, medicines and education campaigns.
❖ The WHO Global Hepatitis Strategy, which is endorsed by all WHO member states.
❖ Between 2016 and 2030, new hepatitis infections are to be reduced by 90% and deaths by 65%.
❖ The National Viral Hepatitis Control Program was implemented in July, 2018 under the National Health Mission by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
❖ This program is also in line with our global commitment towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.3.
